Irena Haiduk and Dean Kissick started working together in late 2019 on Cabaret Économique which premiered on Valentine's Day in 2020 inside Haiduk's exhibition Remaster at the Swiss Institute, New York. Ever since then, the figure of Yugoslav cabaret MC Lane Gutoviċ and Dean Kissick's MC has thoroughly mixed in Irena's head. Currently, they are both in Shanghai making Nula, a feature based on an autofictional novel written by Irena Haiduk and Blakey Bessire.

Soma is a course on finding forms of hosting our own bodies. The body is our most fundamental infrastructure, an instrument of play and an instrument to play. Making space for this medium requires virtuosity, imagination, and improvisation with what is already available, along with a deep awareness of how to be a host. The common task of this course is to construct an economy of agency, a ripple-shaped vibration, traveling to those who will absorb it and carry it further. Within a community of peers and guests, Soma hosts a public studium where everything acts and takes part without taking apart.

Christian Schmitz is a musician based in Berlin.

This event and Irena Haiduk's Visiting Associate Professorship at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts residency in Copenhagen are supported by the Novo Nordisk Foundation and the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts.
