In the spring 2024, the Art Hub Film Club at the Copenhagen cinema Vester Vov Vov is being presented by Berlin-based artist Loretta Fahrenholz, who will feature a selection of films that delve into the emergence of filmmaking during the 1970s and 1980s, spurred by the women\u2019s liberation movements. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The screening series starts off with film work Two A.M.<\/em> by Loretta Fahrenholz, which is a fantasy film based on the exile novel Nach Mitternacht<\/em> (After Midnight) by Irmgard Keun\u2014a prophetic, blackly humorous novel about the rise of the Nazis, written after Keun\u2019s escape to the Netherlands in 1937.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two A.M. <\/em>deals with contemporary forms of surveillance and social control and follows the interlocking private passions and crises of a group of people at a moment when the larger social spring is wound so tight it could snap at any time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ABOUT THE ART HUB FILM CLUB
featuring Loretta Fahrenholz<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In spring 2024, the Art Hub Film Club, presented by artist Loretta Fahrenholz<\/a>, will feature a selection of films that delve into the emergence of filmmaking during the 1970s and 1980s in Berlin, spurred by the women\u2019s liberation movements. Female directors renegotiated the male dominated New German Cinema and experimented with highly subjective, wildly divers forms of filmic expression. All films are marked by their defiance of commercial norms, that seek to invent new languages of political filmmaking. By transferring these methods and narratives into contemporary culture Fahrenholz echo this tradition andcreates an overlap of temporalities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The films Two A.M. by Loretta Fahrenholz, Is This Fate by Helga Reidemeister and Ticket of No Return by Ulrike Ottinger represents the act of filmmaking for what it has been for many women, across the decades and around the globe, a terrain of feminist struggle, and a way of not only relating to society, but remaking it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ABOUT LORETTA FAHRENHOLZ<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Loretta Fahrenholz is a filmmaker and visual artist based in Berlin. Her ongoing investigations into contemporary media conditions improvise a decidedly post-cinematic approach to film, exploring social reality today. Often referencing mainstream genres such as sci fi, rom com and fantasy, the artist constructs hybrid docu-narratives whereby the screen begins to function as an interface between subjects and institutions, the real and the programmed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fahrenholz\u2019s work has been shown internationally, including solo exhibitions at Kunsthalle Bergen, Berlin (2023); K\u00f6lnischer Kunstverein (2022); n.b.k. \u2013 Neuer Berliner Kunstverein (2021); mumok \u2013 Museum of Modern Art Ludwig Foundation, Vienna (2018); Fridericianum, Kassel (2016); Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam (2016) and Kunsthalle Z\u00fcrich (2015). As well as film screenings at Ann Arbor Film Festival (2019, 2020, 2021); Kurzfilmtage Oberhausen (2014, 2020); Institute of Contemporary Arts, London (2019); Image Festival Toronto (2016); Museum of Contemporary Art, Miami (2015); and Anthology Film Archives, New York (2015).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
