In January 2025, AHC opened the exhibition platform Room Room at Thoravej 29 in Copenhagen. It presents exhibitions by artists, curators and art researchers who promote the field of contemporary art and its relationship to the world.
Some of the exhibitions are created based on open calls, and this is the first in a series. An art jury consisting of art historian and curator at Gammel Strand Mai Dengsøe, curator at Lunds Konsthall, Paula Ludusan Gibe, artistic director at AHC Jacob Fabricius and curator Marie Braad Larsen has selected one exhibition proposal for the 2026 spot among many strong applications.
The selected exhibition proposal came from the curatorial duo Tofu Collective, consisting of Martin Wendelbo and Regen Li.
Founded in 2018, Tofu Collective is an independent platform dedicated to promoting Chinese contemporary art through transnational initiatives spanning exhibitions, publications and events. Tofu Collective’s work is rooted in research and inclusive methodologies involving a global network of emerging and established artists and other art professionals connected to the Chinese-speaking (Sinophone) regions and diasporas.
Opening in April 2026, the exhibition at Room Room, titled A Total Story, is a collaboration between Tofu Collective and Taiwanese artist Su Hui-Yu. The exhibition will embrace the dual nature of Room Room, transforming it into both a site-specific exhibition and a TV production set, using the multifaceted format of variety shows to explore the anxieties of today’s geopolitical tensions.
The process of creating the exhibition is already underway, with Tofu Collective participating in ongoing sparring and feedback sessions with AHC’s curatorial team. AHC will support the process and production of the exhibition, as well as the development of a communication program that will be executed during the exhibition period.
Below you can read the jury statement:
“With great insight and broad knowledge of Sinophone contemporary art, Tofu Collective brings unexplored voices and atypical projects to the Danish art scene. As a collective, the curatorial team works as an experimental knowledge machine that creates space for new image flows. The combination of professional depth and interest in art as socially engaging makes Tofu Collective a unique exhibition platform that both explores the intimate encounter with art, and at the same time succeeds in building a bridge to a larger, global and sometimes more inaccessible world.
As Tofu collective and artist Su Hui-Yu spread their wings within Room Rooms’ vivid space the room will turn into a unique and playful landscape while the exhibition reflects on geopolitical issues concerning East and West. With the curatorial team’s passion for highlighting Chinese and Sinophone contemporary art, the storyline of the exhibition will transform over time making it both participatory and dynamic, bringing the audience into the making and unfolding of the exhibition.”
