Wintanworks :

Presentation : Percy Nii Nortey

25 May 2025 05.00 PM - 06.30 PM
Art Hub Copenhagen Thoravej 29, 2400 København NV

Join us for an after-work event on Monday 26 May, when our Wintanworks resident Percy Nii Nortey presents his artistic practice in the library at AHC.

Percy Nii Nortey is a Ghanaian artist working with themes of identity, materiality, memory, and labor through installation, performative objects and moving sculptures. Deeply rooted in his personal history and the socio-economic conditions of Ghana, Nortey’s practice seeks to decolonize minds, empower Black communities, and reclaim agency over their narratives.

Percy has been in Denmark all of May, working from his studio at Thoravej as part of Wintanworks. The residency programme provides two artists – one from Denmark and one from Ghana – with the opportunity to ‘swap’ locations for one month, each of them thereby spending time in another art scene and another cultural environment.

MORE ABOUT PERCY NII NORTEY
Community engagement is central to Percy Nii Nortey’s artistic approach, as he actively involves local people in the creative process. Through projects that repurpose second-hand fabrics— distributing them, collecting them after use, and transforming them into artworks—he highlights the significance of labor and its role in society.
His work has been featured in major cultural events such as the Dekoloniale in Berlin, Kunstenfestivaldesarts in Brussels, Chale Wote Art Festival in Accra, and the Museum of Science and Technology in Accra. He has participated in residencies at the Dekoloniale Festival in Germany, Saari Residence in Finland, and perfocraZe International Artist Residency in Ghana.

MORE ABOUT WINTANWORKS

Wintanworks is an artist-in-residence and exchange programme – a collaboration between Art Hub Copenhagen (AHC) in Denmark and the blaxTARLINES KUMASI collective in Ghana. This residency programme provides two artists – one from each country – with the opportunity to ‘swap’ locations for one month, each of them thereby spending time in another art scene and another cultural environment.

The programme comprises accommodation in Accra/Kumasi and Copenhagen and a planned programme that allows for time to conduct research, form a new network, and give a public talk.

AHC : gives time, space and voices to artistic experimentation
