What can the “golden age of television” of the 1980s tell you about belonging, desire and anxiety today? Quite a lot, according to Taiwanese artist Su Hui-Yu, who sees the variety show (perhaps the most universal of all TV formats) as a lens to mark the ideological tensions of the present.
In this second and last podcast episode we are diving deep in to the life of Su in search of what has formed his signature method of ‘reshooting’: Making art works by revisiting films and narratives form the past to bring forward the untold stories and forgotten tales that bubble right underneath the surface.
Through crisp and highly aesthetically films, museum-scale productions and collaborative performances around the world, Su Hui-Yu has already drawn international attention, from the Museum of Contemporary Art, Taipei, and the Bogotá Museum of Modern Art, among others.
Now the curatorial team Martin Wendelbo and Regen Li, who is behind the trailblazing art platform Tofu Collective, have invited Su to extend his research into a Scandinavian exhibition for the first time with Vroom Vroom: A Total Story by Su Hui-Yu.
