We are doing a new round of Open Call for applications for studio spaces at the Container Academy from January 2024, and the good news is that the rent has become cheaper. At the same time, this means that Art Hub Copenhagen will also partly move to the Container Academy, from where we will run one of our residency programs until we move permanently to Thoravej 29 in 2025.
AHC values diversity highly. We therefore encourage everyone regardless of age, ethnicity, gender, identity, and sexuality to apply.
We look forward to receiving your application!

THE CONTAINER
The Container Academy is a studio community for visual artists at Oceanvej 1 in Copenhagen’s Nordhavn, which will be inaugurated in January 2024.
It was originally planned that the Container Academy would consist of a series of mobile containers, hence the name, but due to the pandemic and then increasing inflation, the site today consists of one large container; an industrial building covered with steel sheets.
The house contains a total of 30 individual studios as well as two large shared workshops of a total of 160 m2 as well as a meeting room, kitchen, and toilet with shower.
As a tenant, you get your own studio and access to the two large common rooms. A studio on the ground floor is 16 m2 and costs DKK 2.600 per month + DKK 500 in consumption + VAT. The studios on the 1st floor is 16 m2 as well but has higher ceilings. They cost DKK 2.800 per month + DKK 500 in consumption + VAT.
Note that consumption expenses are variable depending on total consumption. The studios are not furnished.
There is 24-hour access to the Container Academy.

THE ACADEMY
The “Academy” in the Container Academy refers to the “School of Athens” and the Socratic way of thinking about equal conversation between free people. The studio community will therefore not only be a place for artists to work, but also an intellectual community where a continuous, investigative conversation takes place – among other things through a public program of exhibitions and other events.
It is hoped that several of the applying artists will want to help initiate activities in the Container Academy. Each year two artists are therefore appointed in the Container Academy to supervise the preparation of an annual program à minimum six events for a fee of DKK 3,000 per event. When you apply for a studio in the Container Academy, you must therefore indicate and motivate whether you wish to undertake this work, please see the application form below.

PRACTICAL INFORMATION
Move-in and rental period apply from 1 January or 1 February 2024.
You can apply for a studio for two or four years, respectively, and it is then possible to apply for an extension. However, it is possible to have a studio for a maximum of six years.
Artists with a studio in the Container Academy will be offered membership of AHC with access to workshop facilities when AHC moves to Thoravej 29 in Nordvest in 2025.
The Container Academy is a commercial foundation. It is therefore necessary as a tenant of a studio to be VAT registered.
On Friday 3 November at 10.00am to 12.00 noon we invite everyone interested to an open house, where you can get an impression of the building and the studios.

MORE ABOUT THE CONTAINER ACADEMY
The initiator of the project is visual artist and professor Bjørn Nørgaard. The place was built and is run by Fondet Containerakademiet in collaboration with AHC, which helps to develop the studio community and the artistic program. Over time, the intention is that the ‘academy’ – the spiritual structure of the place – will be self-organising.
