SPARK (Participant, artist)
Sonja Strange works site-specifically, where she examines the historical, geo-, bio- and mythological layers of the given place – an exploration of our common composite world. She then creates a new narrative, of a performative and somehow sci-fi nature. Strange has collaborated with various scientific partners in her practice, such as DTU Space, astrophysicists and biologists. She has explored topics such as the Earth’s gravitational field, solar storms, the northern lights and terms like cryosleep and what types of life that are capable of surviving in space.
In her latest work, Strange investigated the possibility of finding life in space, and delved into the theory of panspermia. Strange unfolds these scientific topics through video works,
text, sound, sculptures and performance.
Selected exhibitions and performances include presentations at The Factory (IS), HEART – Herning Museum of Contemporary Art (DK), ASTA – Autonomous Systems Test Arena DTU (DK), Sorø Kunstmuseum (DK), Kunsthal Rønnebæksholm (DK), Cisternerne (DK) Munkeruphus (DK) Tegners Museum (DK) Christiansborg Ridebane (DK).
Sonja Strange is taking part in the SPARK project Planetary Dust Machine in collaboration with artist Barbara Amalie Skovmand and researcher Adrien Houge.
