BAR x :
Simin Stine Ramezanali: music without a fixed melody / shades of blue(s)
On Thursday 23 November, AHC has invited artist Simin Stine Ramezanali to take part in a BAR x event, an evening of performance accompanied by drinks and DJ set. Based on an excerpt from her recent film work MO(U)RNING XXL, Simin Stine Ramezanali will perform an ambient live set to further develop the film’s sound compositions.
In a setting of different shades of blue(s), this ambient live set will use excess sound material that was recorded for the film and an out-of-tune santur, which also has a character in the film. Still lingering on the interests, mourning and grief as a non-linear process in flux, Ramezanali will be working sonically with the abrupt, layered, and dissonant, connecting fragments with their own agencies.
In a continuous transition, Berlin-based artist moraya will afterwards take over the performance scene to play a DJ set. Maryam Fazeli is an interdisciplinary artist and DJ under the name moraya who is involved in different projects within art, research, and activism through the work in collectives. Coming from an interdisciplinary background they move in sound as an empowering tool to create shared spaces for alternative imaginations, challenging hierarchy of sounds, and habits of listening. With a percussive and experimental approach focusing on low frequencies, moraya’s music explores the constant changing proximity to the listener, seeking the silent in the loud. They are the other half of the newly formed duo ‘abolish i’ together with Simin Ramezanali.

ABOUT MO(U)RNING XXL
Simin Ramezanali’s work MO(U)RNING XXL focuses on finding musicality in memories, grief, longing, and revolution(s). Based on close family relationships, they explore grief as a constant and plastic, non-linear collective process that forms people and their relationships. In a musical audio track, Ramezanali examines disharmony as a disorienting underlying mood. The film highlights an art museum, where father and daughter can mirror themselves and each other, and in the presentation of objects in frames, behind glass. The museum is also a place where grief can be linked to cultural documents that make it possible to keep memories alive and refer to historical and political events. Ramezanali brings these dialogues together - across generations, places, and music - in a fragmented narrative, exploring grief as a negotiation between inner landscapes and the disparity of the outer world. MO(U)RNING XXL the film was exhibited at Charlottenborg for EXIT 23’.
ABOUT SIMIN STINE RAMEZANALI
Simin Stine Ramezanali (b.1992), a visual media artist and drummer, who is based in Copenhagen. Known under the moniker abji_hypersun and as a member of the experimental doom punk trio SLIM0. Simin’s practise stretches from music making, visual art production and working behind the stage as a co-founder of the music platform and independent label UUMPHFF-music. Ramezanalis musical practice extracts tropes drawn from the operatic and theatrical, narrative non-linear storytelling in multiple voices and beats in layered compositions; their sound moves in between feelings of beauty, the comic, the scary, the loud (something in between nightmare and dream). Through this, they tour the notion of sounds out of tune.
