OPEN CALL :

Wintanworks Residency 2027

15 November 2026 11.59 PM
Art Hub Copenhagen Thoravej 29, 2400 København NV

Wintanworks is a residency and an exchange programme, organized by Art Hub Copenhagen (AHC) and blaxTARLINES KUMASI, which provides two artists – one from Ghana and one from Denmark – with the opportunity to ‘swap’ locations for two months, each of them thereby engaging with a new art scene.

This is the Open Call for Danish artists to apply for a residency in Ghana from 1 April to 31 May 2027. The deadline for applications is 15 November 2026 at 11.59 PM.

The residency programme comprises accommodation in Accra/Kumasi and a programme that allows for time to conduct research, form a new network, and give a public talk or presentation.

You’ll find the programme for Ghana below and more information on Wintanworks here.

Please note, this residency can only be applied for if you reside in Denmark. If you are from Ghana, please go to this Open Call.

THE PROGRAMME IN GHANA

The residency offers:

  • A shared studio space at the Department of Painting and Sculpture at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
  • Accommodation at KCCR KNUST, Kumasi
  • A monthly stipend of 13.000 DKK (appr. 1.740 euros)
  • One round-trip ticket between Copenhagen and Ghana. Other travel activities connected to the programme are covered as well on approval.
  • Help with booking and organisation of accommodation.
  • Organisation of local travel and transport between residency locations and art spaces.
  • Access to professional workshop facilities at the Faculty of Arts, KNUST.
  • Meetings with local curators, members of blaxTARLINES KUMASI, and local art institutions.
  • Facilitation of a public presentation by the resident.

AHC and blaxTARLINES KUMASI will help organize the residency programme in Ghana, however, please note that participation still requires a strong willingness to self-organize one's own time and travels.

The programme consists of research trips and excursions both to Accra, a vibrant capital with an inspiring art scene and a visit to Red Clay Studio, a sprawling 200-acre open-access art, culture, and educational campus located in Tamale, in the Northern Region of Ghana, initiated and run by Ghanaian artist Ibrahim Mahama.

The resident will base themselves in Kumasi, connected with KNUST's Department of Painting and Sculpture and meet with members of blaxTARLINES Kumasi, former Wintanworks residents, local artists, and art practitioners. In Kumasi, the resident will furthermore have the opportunity to present their practice to the art students at the university.

Furthermore, the residency programme also invites the artist to become part of AHC’s alumni network and to have their practice presented on both blaxTARLINES and AHC’s communication platforms.

There is no requirement to produce new work during the residency.

The everyday management of Wintanworks is in the hands of Elolo Bosoka from blaxTARLINES KUMASI and Marie Braad Larsen from AHC, who will also be the residents’ contact persons during the residency.
