ABOUT AMALIE BRANDT’S PhD PROJECT:

My research project examines notions of transparency in contemporary art and curating. Often conceptualized as access, transparency has been adopted as an ethical imperative by many curators and institutions. Considering the advent of new digital communication and information technologies as well as the widespread rhetoric and valorization of transparency in all social spheres, the project looks at how it shapes different regimes of visibility and associated modes of subjectivity at play in exhibitions as well as their relation to broader sociopolitical contexts. The project encompasses both practice-based and analytical methods.
