Jette Gejl (DK)
Visual artist & Associate Professor, Aarhus University
Jette Gejl graduated from the Jutland Art Academy in 1996. During her studies in 1995, she was a central part of founding and running LXX, the first artist-run exhibition space in Aarhus, whose purpose was to create a space for networking with contemporary artists in Denmark and Northern Europe. As Associate Professor at Department of Art History, Aarhus Universitet, she has taught curating and created a lot of pop-up displays for students in relation to practical works. Since 2016, she has been an active part of the KH7 workshop community at Sojahuset and KH7artspace in the Sydhavn area of Aarhus, and since 2022, she has been head curator.
Gejl advocates for a non-hierarchical approach to contemporary art and she is deeply inspired by the historical legacy of solidarity, labor, and shared responsibility that the Sydhavn area carries from the historical dock worker culture. This engagement also influences her own practice as a professional artist.
