Markus von Platen (DK)

Artist & co-director, Simian

Markus von Platen (b. 1984) is an artist and artistic co-director of Simian in Copenhagen. His work, research and interest spans from installation, sculpture, film and conceptual practices to sound and experimental music composition. Von Platen has an MFA from The Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen and Akademie Der Bildende Künste in Vienna. He was an artist-in-residence at WIELS in Brussels, Labverde in Amazonas and Geumcheon Art Center in Seoul, amongst others.

Simian is an independent art center in the district of Ørestad in Copenhagen, Denmark. Founded and run by artists as a non-profit organization, Simian aspires to support and present experimental exhibition projects by national and international artists from emergent and established positions. Through an extensive programme, Simian seeks to engage in critical artistic and social discourses, with the aim to generate discussion, reflection and agency.
