Maibritt Borgen has been appointed as the new director of Art Hub Copenhagen and will be responsible for driving the institution’s continued development and strengthening its core areas: artistic development, production and research as well as interdisciplinary collaborations.

Borgen brings with her extensive expertise in the visual arts, a broad international network and leadership experience from a highly specialised art institution. Most recently, she headed the Laboratory for Art Research at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts’ Schools of Visual Arts in Copenhagen. Previously, she has held positions at the Danish Architecture Center, the Whitney Museum of American Art and the Yale University Art Gallery. Borgen holds an MA in Modern Culture and Cultural Communication and a PhD in Art History, conducted at Yale University.

In connection with her appointment, Borgen says:

“Art Hub Copenhagen is a dynamic and visionary cultural institution that, since its founding, has distinguished itself by providing time and space for artistic experimentation. As director, I will continue to build on that foundation and work to ensure the strongest possible strategic framework for the institution’s ongoing development and its infrastructure at Thoravej 29.”

Speaking about her ambitions for Art Hub Copenhagen, she adds:

“My work is grounded in a deep belief that art has the power to create meaningful change in society and contribute to new forms of knowledge and understanding. That ambition and conviction lie at the heart of my approach to leading artistic development and research environments, and I am truly excited to contribute to Art Hub’s work together with its talented team.”

As director of Art Hub Copenhagen, Borgen will operate at the intersection of art, cultural leadership and society. Head of the Board at Art Hub Copenhagen, Mette Kynne Frandsen, comments:

“I am very pleased to welcome Maibritt Borgen as Art Hub Copenhagen’s new director. Maibritt brings deep insight and experience in strategic development, leadership and cultural institution building, along with a strong vision for the role and voice of contemporary art in society. These competencies and ambitions will be key to strengthening and developing Art Hub Copenhagen in the years ahead.”

Maibritt Borgen succeeds Jacob Fabricius and Susanne Hviid as director of Art Hub Copenhagen and will take up the position on 1 November 2025.
