Join us for the last Free Lunch on Tuesday 4 June before the summer. This time with visual artist Stense Andrea Lind-Valdan in conversation with Ditte Soria, visual artist, part of the artist group Years and curator at Huset for Kunst og Design and Metha Rais-Nordentoft, art historian and gallery assistant at Galleri Maria Friis.
The conversation starts from Lind-Valdan's current solo exhibition "Ve" which is currently on show at Huset for Kunst & Design. In the Danish word, ‘ve’ lies the woman's pain when she gives birth – “contractions” or “labor”, a gendered pain. Historically, the word ‘ve’ (“woe”) covers a general pain and can also be used as an incantation. Underlying is the pain that we – perhaps especially in the Western world – inflict on ourselves, other people, other species and the climate.
It is thus the body of pain that the exhibition thematizes, and which in this conversation becomes entangled in the artistic act, which connects artists' bodies across enormous periods of time, from the cave painter to the contemporary painter. Stense Andrea Lind-Valdan's exhibition "Ve" can be experienced at Huset for Kunst og Design until 14 July 2024.

Stense Andrea Lind-Valdan, b. 1985, is a visual artist trained under Tumi Magnusson from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts at the then Department of Painting in the expanded field. She works with painting, performance and photography and has several exhibitions behind her, most recently the group exhibition MAMA MIA (2022) at Willumsens Museum, which she also curated, the solo exhibition Under (2023) at Galleri Maria Friis and the current solo exhibition Ve (2024) at Huset for Kunst & Design.
She also works as an art critic for the Nordic art journal Kunstkritikk. Together with her partner Rune Gade, she runs Forlaget Sød tøs, which publishes artists’ books in very small editions. Stense Andrea Lind-Valdan’s works have been purchased by the Ny Carlsberg Foundation, SMK, the Statens Kunstfond and others.
