Agenda After the Academy :

Workshop: Non-linear thinking within visual arts

18 October 2020 10.00 AM - 03.00 PM
Art Hub Copenhagen Halmtorvet 27, 1700 København V

Every six-month Art Hub invites a group of newly graduated artists to organize a series of public events to challenge taught theories and to develop a new language and new perceptions. We call it Agenda After the Academy.

This autumn, the Copenhagen-based artist collective Subterranean Video Art Club (S.V.A.C.) is selected to arrange a series of lectures and workshops for fellow artists. On Sunday, October 18, the first workshop is being held.

Non-linear thinking within visual arts is a one-day workshop where visual artist Moa Alskog and literature scholar David Cendales are invited by S.V.A.C to present a “conceptual tool” for artists to further develop their working methods. They make sense and practical use of the philosophers Guattari’s and Deleuze’s concepts of the tree, the root and the rhizome. Three different ways of thinking structures that are useful in the process of making, but also for looking and analyzing artworks. The concepts can be applied whether you work with video, text, sculpture, installation, or painting.

The workshop will be divided into three parts: a presentation of the concepts and examples of artworks, a discussion of examples of artworks in group(s) to understand the concepts more in depth, and finally a reflection upon how the participants can use the thinking in their own practice. You are welcome to bring your own works of art to analyze and discuss.

The workshop will be held in English and during drinks are being served.
