Jonas Kjeldgaard Sørensen (b. 1993) graduated from the Funen Art Academy in 2018. Since, he has developed a performative praxis that tells stories about our contemporary imagination. By dealing with historical research through the lens of speculative narratives, he imagines other realities instead of accepting the excisting.
For the exhibition William, it’s not a dream at TRANSIT in 2022, he created the alter ego VÅBENSLIBEREN (the weapon grinder), to give himself the opportunity to see the war zone as a showroom. Here, the figure navigates through topics such as contemporary brutality, fluid genealogy and the breakdown of masculinity
Furthermore, singing has recently entered Kjeldgaard Sørensen’s practice as a seductive force, to sing out the dark spirit of capitalism. He performs in fictions with theatrical awareness and has shown his work internationally. Våbensliberen is currently writing a new album Himmelhviskerne, as an ode to the 27 new F-35 fighter jets that the Danish state has bought. For the Roskilde festival 2024, he showed the site-specific performance work The Wagon of Mutter Courage which poetically examined the materiality and cultural imprint of the war.
