AHC Remote Residency

AHC Remote Residency is Art Hub Copenhagen’s five-month residency programme for visual artists living and working in Denmark outside the capital.

Like our AHC Residency, AHC Remote Residency focuses on artistic development, knowledge sharing, and professional communities. It especially caters to visual artists who do not have the opportunity to work from AHC at Thoravej 29 on a daily basis.

Each year, two artists are selected for the spring semester (1 February to 30 June) and the autumn semester (1 September to 31 January).

The residency programme has been offered since 2022 under the name Residency to Go. The programme was established to ensure development and exchange for visual artists across practices, geographies, and generations.

THE PROGRAMME

The programme includes a fee, a programme of meetings, excursions, workshops, and Open Studios, with access to AHC’s workshops if required.

AHC Remote Residency offers

• A monthly fee of DKK 21,000 incl. VAT, which also covers material expenses.
• A professional programme consisting of meetings with three curators or mentors, selected by the artist in collaboration with AHC.
• Excursions to selected institutions in Denmark and/or southern Sweden.
• Ongoing discussions and support.
• The opportunity to participate in professional workshops, and in AHC’s Open Studios, held twice a year.
• Access to AHC’s five workshops at Thoravej 29, where artists can work with casting, metal and wood, as well as digital production methods including CNC milling, 3D printing, and laser cutting. All workshops are open from 7:00 am to 11:00 pm every day. Read more here.
• Financial support for transport and accommodation when participating in the part of the programme taking place at Thoravej 29.

The residency programme also invites residents to become part of AHC’s alumni network and to have their practice presented on AHC’s communication platforms.

There is no requirement to produce a work during the residency.

Marie Braad Larsen, AHC’s Head of Residencies, is the programme manager and the artist’s contact person during the residency.

APPLICATION CRITERIA

AHC Remote Residency is for artists at any stage of their professional development – both those with well-established careers and those beginning their professional practice.

The Residency is open to Denmark-based professional visual artists working at least 35 kilometres from Thoravej 29, 2400 Copenhagen NV, as the crow flies. Applicants must have either an MFA or comparable professional experience.

At the start of the residency, the resident must have completed their education or have worked professionally for a minimum of three years.

You can apply as a duo, but please note that fees and grants for travel expenses and accommodation must be shared.

SELECTION PROCESS

All artists are selected through an Open Call, which AHC launches once a year for both periods. The Open Call for spring and autumn 2027 will be published on the website on 17 August 2026, while the Open Call for the entirety of 2028 will be published in mid-February 2027.

All applications are assessed by a jury consisting of three external artists or curators and two representatives from AHC. In 2025, the jury consisted of Kit Leunbach, Pauline Koffi Vandet, Guston Sondin-Kung, as well as Maibritt Borgen and Marie Braad Larsen from AHC.

Applications to AHC Remote Residency are assessed based on the quality of the artistic practice and the potential of the residency programme to accelerate the development of the individual artist. The applicant’s motivation and readiness to undertake the residency programme are also assessed, as is the diversity of practices and identities represented within the selected group.
