Open Call: Summerworks 2024

Are you an artist with a special interest in graphics and printmaking? If so, you can now apply to join the Summerworks Residency in New York in July 2024. Deadline is 22 March 2024 at 12 noon.
Once again, Art Hub Copenhagen has joined forces with the Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts (EFA) to offer four artists a four-week residency at the Academic Guest House in New York. The focus of the residency is graphic production and the expansion of the participants’ networks in an international environment.
As part of the Summerworks programme, the artists in residence must make a small presentation of their practices in the EFA’s premises, and a subsequent presentation of sketches from their residency at SKITSE in Copenhagen.
In addition to their one-month stay in New York, the participants will attend two or three preparatory meetings in Copenhagen at Art Hub Copenhagen, Halmtorvet. These preparatory meetings will take place in May and June 2024. Here, residents will get the opportunity not only to ask questions and meet one another, but also to talk with the EFA online. The project manager, Marie Braad Larsen will also help coordinate and make preparations for the residency.

WHO CAN APPLY?
Summerworks is open to any professional and graduated artist based in Denmark who are entitled to an ESTA visa (the artist must apply for their own.) Apart from that we encourage everyone regardless of ethnicity, gender, identity, and sexuality to apply.
Please read the following requirements for applicants:
• Experience with traditional graphics and graphic production.
• Interest in expanding their network by taking part in the EFA programme, which includes visits to studios and galleries with curators, study trips, and social events.
• Contribution to the preparations and coordination of the presentations at the EFA and at SKITSE in Copenhagen.
• Attendance at two or three meetings in May and June prior to the residency (partly in Copenhagen and partly online).
• Availability at least from 1 to 31 July to be based in New York.
• Please note that it is not possible to apply for Summerworks if you have already participated in AHC’s Art Hub Residency or Residency To Go.

SUMMERWORKS 2024 INCLUDES:
• Return travel expenses (flight CPH/NYC/CPH).
• Accommodation at the Academic Guest House in individual apartments.
• Round-the-clock access to a communal, 34-m2 workshop at the EFA.
• Free access to the EFA’s Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop during working hours (Wednesday-Sunday from 12.00 noon to 7.00 pm). You can view the list of facilities here.
• Access to the EFA conference room.
• An introduction excursions to New York City’s art scene, and visits to studios and galleries with curators and critics.
• A small presentation at the EFA and a subsequent presentation at SKITSE.
• A small amount of money towards production expenses and participation in workshops and teaching.

HOW TO APPLY:
You must write your application in English. It should contain the following:
• A short motivated application (max. 1 A4 page).
• A CV (max. 1 A4 page).
• Examples of your work (max. 2 A4 pages).
• A short biography in English (max. 150 words), which can later be used to promote your residency on Art Hub Copenhagen’s mediation platforms and at the EFA.
You must submit your application as a single PDF file (max. 5 MB) to: ansogning@arthubcopenhagen.dk. Write ‘Summerworks 2024’ in the subject field.
Application deadline is 22 March 2024 at 12 noon.
The applications will be assessed by a jury made up of three art professionals – two external members and a representative of Art Hub Copenhagen.

The Academic Guest House is situated in a large townhouse in a quiet side street near Central Park, New York. The house contains fully furnished apartments, all ready to move into. Each resident will have their own apartment, but as you are sharing a house with others, it is important to be considerate of the communal setting.
