Program

Stefan Bakmand (b.1988) studied at the Jutland Art Academy in Aarhus, Denmark (2010-2015), and holds a master’s in artistic research from Sint Lucas Antwerpen, Belgium, where he studied from 2018 to 2019. He has exhibited at Kunsthal Aarhus, Se-rum, Kh7Artspace and Ok Corral in Copenhagen. He has been on residencies at La Wayaka Current in Panama and Frans Masereel Centrum in Belgium. In 2021, he received a working grant from the Danish Arts Foundation.

Bakmand deploys drawing, graphics, text and archival to explore mysticism, ontological topics and the psychological and spiritual aspects of humankind.

His practice is based on his own ‘atlas’ – a collection of images from different periods of time, featuring alchemical symbolism, biology, science, references to art history, family photos, comics and other elements of pop culture. He calls the atlas ‘Det Bybliomøbiske Museum’.
