Open Call: Wintanworks 2024

Wintanworks is an artist-in-residence and exchange programme – a collaboration between Art Hub Copenhagen (AHC) in Denmark and the blaxTARLINES KUMASI collective in Ghana. Deadline for applications is 26 October 2023.

Wintanworks is an artist-in-residence and exchange programme – a collaboration between Art Hub Copenhagen (AHC) in Denmark and the blaxTARLINES KUMASI collective in Ghana. This residency programme provides two artists – one from each country – with the opportunity to ‘swap’ locations for one month, each of them thereby spending time in another art scene and another cultural environment.

Art Hub Copenhagen works to give time, space and language to contemporary art and artists, and the overall idea of Wintanworks is to engender and support artistic exchange and networking between north and south – between Denmark and Ghana.

The programme comprises accommodation in Accra/Kumasi and Copenhagen and a planned programme that allows for time to conduct research, form a new network, and give a public talk.

The name ‘Wintanworks’ is a portmanteau word composed of ‘Winter’ and ‘Harmattan’, meaning ‘desert wind’, indicating quite simply that the residency takes place in February-March, when cold winds blow in Denmark, and strong and Sahara dusty winds prevail in West Africa.

Wintanworks first took place as a pilot project in February 2023, involving the artists Abdul-Salam Alhassan and Sofie Amalie Andersen. To read more about their experiences and exchanges, tap here.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Currently, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark advises against all non-essential travel to the northern regions of Ghana. All travel related to Wintanworks will take place in southern Ghana. Based on guidance from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, we believe that it will be safe for our resident to travel there. We will of course monitor the situation on an on-going basis.
