Martha Hviid makes large installations, medium-sized sculptures, small manageable objects, drawings, texts, and sometimes pieces one can listen to or smell. Her practice revolves around how we as humans sense, feel, interpret and interact with the world around us – this from a perspective of our psychological, neurological, physiological and relational preconditions, and how we consciously and subconsciously communicate these to and with each other.
She mostly works with materials that call upon one’s sensorial memory from everyday life – plush carpets, hard concrete, smooth ceramics and bent metals. Martha holds an MFA from The Royal College of Art in London and University of Texas in Austin. She currently resides in Copenhagen.
